I prefer HK Islander over Asian Pearl, but if I lived closer to AP, I would be fine going there instead. Their regular menu also has a lot of interesting dishes I’ve never even heard of before – TBD. Sometimes they’re a little hit or miss, but mostly solid. They don’t do gai lan very well, so you can skip that (most dim sum places seem to fail in cooking gai lan for some reason). My favorite drink here (and at Boba Cafe down Freeport) is the hot coconut ginger milk tea. Even their garlic broccoli has a sweeter soy sauce and I love it. I love their dishes because they are savory, but lean heavily on the sweet side. Now I crave the thick skin dumplings and sweet dipping sauce from Dumpling House. This place changed my mind about dumplings. Their salty egg yolk mushroom dish is a superb treat when you’re eating with a group. We got a fried chicken stuffed with sticky rice one lunar new year and it was greasy, flavorful, and satisfying. This is also the only place I’ve ever had Chinese fried chicken and it was really unique (crispy thin batter). Like many traditional Chinese restaurants, sometimes you get a free soup, which is basically a bone broth made of whatever leftover meat and vegetable cuts they have. The service is what I expect from Chinese restaurants – they’re not here to make you feel good about yourself, you’re here to eat their food. Overall, it’s a delicious restaurant that truly merits a Michelin distinction.New Station is the closest thing I’ve had to my mum’s home cooking in Sacramento (she grew up in Guilin). They had several tables good for large parties (8 people or so). They have cart service so you can easily eat a variety to your heart’s content. The custard buns come with a lot of custard filling and are just the right amount of sweetness The spareribs were soft and juicy my mom really liked them Similar to the above, the shrimp and scallop dumpling was cold but had a good amount of stuffing The fried shrimp dumpling was a bit cold but still good it came with a sweet pink sauce The BBQ pork bun was large and pillowy, but had a small portion of meat The green tea mochi was super chewy and I loved the filling The har gao had juicy shrimp but the skin was a tad thick ![]() The siu mai was super moist and piping hot - we ordered four. We got ~11 dishes for four people and still a couple of dishes leftover. They have tea service ($1/person).įood-wise, everything was on point. Bathrooms are available in the back right and side of the restaurant. Free parking is available in the back of the building and in the alley. for indoor dining (no outdoor dining available). There was a short wait (write your name and party size on the paper by the hostess stand). Stopped by on the way down from Lake Tahoe back to LA on a Sunday, and left with happy tummies.
